October is artoberVA for the Greater Richmond Region. The month-long celebration of arts + culture organized by CultureWorks brings a variety of events — from exhibits to film screenings to a citywide scavenger hunt.

  • Gallery5 is hosting the “Carnival of 5 Fires” this Fri., Oct. 7 starting at 5 p.m. The First Friday kickoff event will feature live music, a group art show, local vendors + tarot readings. The block party will shut down Brook Road from the gallery to GWARbar. 🔥
  • The Scott’s Addition Pumpkin Festival will return to Arthur Ashe Boulevard on Sat., Oct. 15 from 12-6 p.m. There will be costume contests for humans + pets, live music throughout the day, and a River City Roll afterparty from 2-9 p.m. 🎃

  • Reforest Richmond is hosting plen-tree of events for ArborDayRVA. The week-long celebration of all things trees will take place Sat., Oct. 15-Sun., Oct. 23. Where to see fall foliage around Richmond

Fall foliage is set to peak in the next few weeks in Central VA. Don’t leaf your planning until its too late — use our guide to where to watch the leaves change based on how far you want to travel.

🍂 Stay in the city

Take a walk down Monument Avenue, wander through Byrd, Bryan, or Forest Hill Park, or set up a picnic at Maymont. Bike or walk along the Capital Trail or visit Hollywood Cemetery.

🍂 Down for a day trip

Pocahontas State Park is a quick getaway, just south of the Chesterfield Airport. Head west to High Bridge Trail State Park (~1 hr drive) or Natural Bridge State Park (~2 hr drive) for scenic views.

Pro tip: If you’re heading towards the mountains, the time to travel is now — the estimated peak is in early October.
