Hello Saturday.

September 25 2021

Folk Fest is back 🪕

The Richmond Folk Festival will return to the riverfront Oct. 8-10 for 3 free days of music, crafts + food. The organizers dropped the full schedule yesterday, which features performances on 5 different stages from 30 artists from around the nation and the world.

For bluegrass lovers, head to the Richmond Times-Dispatch Virginia Folklife Stage at 3 p.m. on Saturday for Danny Knicely & Will Lee, followed by David Via & Corn Tornado 2.0 at 5 p.m. You can also catch Linda Lay & Springfield Exit on the Altria Stage at 7:15 p.m. + on the Folklife Stage at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

When gospel is your go-to, there are plenty of groups to check out throughout the weekend. The Brotherhood Singers, an acapella quartet, will perform multiple times. The Gospel Stars of Greensboro as well as the Legendary Ingramettes — with special guest Sherman Holmes — will appear on the Folklife Stage on Sunday.

If you want to hear something new, try out some Sicilian traditional music from Rosa Tatuata and Michela Musolino, who will perform 4 times over the course of the festival. Discover the talents of the Nava Persian Trio, featuring master of the santour Sourena Sefati, or experience the emotional intensity of Argentine tango with The Pedro Giraudo Tango Ensemble.

Sean Jones, aka “Dizzy Spellz,” will perform with Brinae Ali at the Folk Fest. | Photo provided

That’s just a sample of the groups who will be performing at the festival this year. Check out the full schedule for acts playing reggae, go-go, honky-tonk + more.

If you’re a fan of everything Folk Fest, good news. The festival is still looking for volunteers for everything from helping backstage to working on the green team or joining the bucket brigade to collect donations + keep the festival free.

The Greenlaw Foundation raising donations to help struggling veterans

The Greenlaw Foundation is raising funds through individual and community donations to help support struggling veterans | Photo provided by The Greenlaw Foundation

22 veterans die by suicide every day. The rate of active duty suicides has increased over the last 5 years, and veteran-focused organizations are seeing decreased funding as a result of the pandemic.

That’s why SC-based 501C3 nonprofit The Greenlaw Foundation is raising funds through individual + community donations to help support struggling veterans, specifically focusing on preventing veteran suicide and homelessness.

Donations are tax deductible — and will change the lives of veterans in need. Ⓟ
