We asked readers + Instagram followers to help us hand out sushi superlatives for River City restaurants — and you all really sea-zed the oppor-tuna-ty.

Date night dining 🍷

Red Salt Chophouse & Sushi , 12221 W. Broad St.
Reader Kevin B. recommends a trip to this steakhouse for fine dining. Try This: The Lincoln Roll with spicy yellowtail, tuna, avocado + wasabi aioli.

Bang for your buck 💸

Akida , 606 N. Sheppard St.
This Museum District restaurant comes with an endorsement from Reader Monique M., who said they’ve got the best sushi in town + substantial portions for the price.

Best happy hour 🍺

Lucky Asian Fusion , 3103 W. Leigh St.
Lucky Hour is every day from 2:30-6 p.m. (5-6 p.m. on Sundays) and features deals on apps, rolls, and drinks. We’ve got our eye on the Robin Roll with spicy tuna, wasabi mayo + jalapeño.

Go fish-less 🥑

Sticky Rice , 2232 W. Main St.
This VCU staple has a broad selection of vegetarian rolls, so you never have to order a single avocado + cucumber option again (unless that’s your thing).

Most creative 🍣

Fighting Fish , 912 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd.
Flavors abound in the rolls, but this Scotts Addition spot also has fun with starters like salmon wontons + the fighting fish tower as well as their lineup of sushi burritos.

Hidden gem 💎

Tokyo Sushi , 10274 Staples Mill Rd.
Reader Sue B. let us know about this restaurant nestled in The Shoppes at Crossridge in Glen Allen. Sneak away one afternoon — they’ve got compelling lunch specials .

For a few honorable mentions, we also heard love for Hiro Sushi , Sumo Sushi Express , Wild Ginger , and Sumo San .
