Estes, the largest privately-owned shipping company in the US, has opened its new Richmond facility.
The company was founded in southern Virginia in 1931, and CEO Rob Estes says it’s been headquarted in the Richmond area since the late 1930s. It’s been around for so long that in the company’s logistics system, according to Estes, “the Richmond Terminal... is 001.”
Will Hupp, Estes’ Richmond-based District Operations Manager, expressed his excitement for the terminal’s opening. “This is where our roots are,” he said, “this is where we started.”
Freight for most of the country will pass through the Richmond terminal, according to Hupp, and it has been equipped with state-of-the-art systems in preparation. “We’ve got all the bells and whistles at this facility,” he said.
The new terminal has 98 doors, 41,000+ sqft of dock space, and 4,900 sqft of office space sprawling across 20 acres of land. Explore career opportunities with the company.
