Thou art welcome: Richmond Renaissance Faire launches with fundraiser event

The world of fantasy and mythology is vast, and guess what? Richmond is now within the realm.

Virago Alley hopes to establish the Richmond Ren Faire as an annual multi-day festival in the spring of 2026.

At the start of 2025, locals “huzzah”-ed at the announcement of an RVA Renaissance Faire — a whimsical festival that folks have typically traveled to Spotsylvania County for. Quelling extra travel (or adding an extra in-state destination for “Rennie” enthusiasts), our very own faire stepped to the stage with intent to fundraise and promote a grand launch in 2026.

We don’t know what the exact future of the Richmond Renaissance Faire will look like, but locals can get an idea at their kick-off fundraiser on Friday, March 7, 5-11 p.m.

Unlike most established fairs, this soft-launch, single-day event is intended to test the waters, build rapport within the community, and give Richmonders a taste for all the fantastical fun this tradition offers.

What to expect at the fundraiser:

  • Gallery5, at 200 W. Marshall St., will serve as the “main stage,” but the event will span over three blocks of downtown Richmond.
  • GWARBar will have smoked turkey legs — a Renaissance Faire staple — with vegan and vegetarian options available.
  • Numerous food vendors will supply small plates and take-away dishes. Pro tip: Be on the lookout for Sweet Fix’s Rennaissance-era inspired macarons.
  • You can watch live, historical combat demonstrations.
  • A “story-teller stage” exists to unravel mythical lore.
  • Artisan booths will include crafting, face-painting, photo booths, live presentations, and more
  • Lots of folks will dress in Renaissance-era or fantasy-inspired outfits. There’s no costume requirement, but it’s generally encouraged for the full experience.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to the parking situation, right? Don’t worry. You can find all parking information — as well as answers to other frequently asked questions and an event map— here.
