Monday, Jan 20 is Martin Luther King Day and the Richmond Symphony is making sure everyone feels energized heading into the day of service.
“Celebrate MLK” is a returning concert at the Carpenter Theater on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. It’s features four talented Black composers from across the country who’s music often parallels Dr. King’s messages of equality, hope, and unity.
Here’s what you can expect from each composer throughout the afternoon show:
- Damien Geter | “I Said What I Said” + “String Quartet No. 1: Neo Soul”
- James Lee III | “Quintet for Clarinet & String Quartet”
- Marcus Grant | “Efflorescence: Unfolding, Developing, Blossoming”
- Valerie Coleman | “Red Clay & Mississippi Delta”
The doors will open an hour before the concert. Tickets are $30 for adults or $15 for college students with a valid ID. Anyone between the ages 3-18 can enter for free.
