RVA Ren Faire + Legend Brewing Co. collab on specialty beer + release party

“My Faire Lady” debuts this weekend. Learn about the beer, the party, and the inspiration behind the beer’s hand-painted symbol.

A hand-painted emblem represents Legend Brewing Company's "My Faire Lady" beer. The painting is in the shape of an oval with two overlaid gold and navy blue banners below the bottom rim of the oval; the first, outer layer of the oval includes the text, "My Faire Lady" and a wreath of greenery; the interier oval includes encompassing greenery over a red background on the top section and a green background on the bottom section; a white unicorn, central to the emblem, rears its front legs upward, and a woman wearing a navy blue dress with red and gold accent + a gold hood sits atop the unicorn, weilding an upward sword.

A local artist stepped in to hand-paint the symbol to represent Legend Brewing Company’s new specialty beer.

Partake of good ale and make merriment. Richmond Renaissance Faire and Legend Brewing Company have teamed up for an enchanting pour, spellbound with local art and worthy of revelry.

“My Faire Lady,” a Ren-Faire-inspired beer, will debut on Saturday, March 7. We’ll fill you in on the party details, but first, some background on the beer + its hand-painted symbol:

About the beer:

My Faire Lady is “a traditional Hefeweizen that’s historically inspired and timeless like the Richmond Ren Faire,” said Legend’s Pub Manager Haley Williams. “It’s a German-style unfiltered beer with a 4.2% ABV.”

The emblem (shown above) depicts a Renaissance-era woman wielding a sword and a rearing unicorn in homage to Legend’s logo (shown below).

Behind a bustle of orange flowers growing around a street post is the backside of the white Legend Brewing Company truck; on the truck is a depiction of the Legend logo, a rearing white unicorn with a sprig of wheat on each side of it.

Have you ever stumbled upon Legend’s mythical truck in the wild?

Hand-painted with gouache and ink on paper simulating aged parchment, local artist Cheryn Rapp drew inspiration from “The Lady and the Unicorn,” a famous set of 15th-century tapestries.

About the event:

The beer release party will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. this Saturday, March 7, at Legend Brewing Co. in Manchester. Here’s what else to expect:

  • A costume contest at 7:30 p.m.
  • Face painting
  • Artisan vendors
  • An exclusive look at a sword crafted by Join or Die Knives (to be raffled later this spring)

“[Legend] has been very kind to host many of our character actor auditions and rehearsals this past year, so this collab is sort of a ‘thank you’ to help bring folks out to their space,” said Ash Moore, Managing Director of Virago Alley.
