Let us plan your Richmond Restaurant Week

Richmond Restaurant Week returns from Monday, April 24-Sunday, April 30. With 34 participating restaurants, there’s a lot on the menu.

Each participating restaurant will offer a three course, prix fixe meal for $35.23, with $5.23 of that going to Feed More. RRW has been working with the nonprofit since the culinary event began in 2001.

Fun fact: Every $1 donated to Feed More helps provide four meals, so enjoying one meal during Restaurant Week means feeding over 20 community members.

Now there’s just one question — where to go? Here are some of our picks, although there’s really no wrong answer. Pro tip: Click each restaurant name to make a reservation.

🐟 Fish-friendly

Alewife promises Crispy Gulf Shrimp in a green curry sauce and Arctic Char with roasted baby carrots and whipped labneh.

🍗 For carnivores

Try a crispy leg of duck, chicken thighs, or the steak frites at The Shaved Duck in Midlothian. At Jewfro you can enjoy lamb ribs, a za’atar tenderloin, or honey harissa chicken.

🥗 Veggie lovers

Most of the menus we checked out had several vegetarian options, but we were intrigued by the pimento cheese fritters and zucchini noodles at Julep’s. Acacia will also have a sweet red pepper soup and fresh pasta with mushrooms and leeks.

🌶 Try something new

If you haven’t had a chance to try Conejo since it opened last summer, its special menu will include an Ensalada con Garbanzo with tahini green goddess dressing.

🌊 Enjoy the ambiance

The Boathouse and Island Shrimp Co. at Rocketts Landing will have you dining with a riverside view. See Richmond from above by making a reservation for the Q Rooftop.

View the full list of participating restaurants and let us know where you’re making a reservation for Restaurant Week.

Try This: Blast off with “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon”

Get ready to take flight at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture this year. “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon” is open for exploration, and I (Senior City Editor Robin, here) traversed all four galleries filled with Space Race and contemporary artifacts.

What we tried:

Everything. I examined model rockets, swiped through interactive timelines, read a letter from Jackie Kennedy, saw space suits, touched a piece of the moon, and watched broadcast footage outside a period-accurate television storefront. It was a journey witnessing how space travel went from pen-and-paper equations by human calculators to the technology of today.

Whether you’re prone to take small steps or giant leaps through an exhibit, “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon” will let you experience technology and exploration through the eyes of the engineers and in the boots of the astronauts who took us to the moon. *
What not to miss
News Notes
Open
  • Stanley’s, the new spot for Philly-style hoagies in the River City, is now open. The restaurant is located where Robin Inn was for nearly six decades. Stop in for a hoagie or try a slice of tomato pie.
  • The Wild Wander paper goods and gifts shop is open in the Fan. Head to the Strawberry Street storefront on Thursdays through Sundays. Bonus: Mark your calendar for a grand opening celebration — complete with special deals and a back porch picnic — on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Eat
  • Join the fun tomorrow at the grand opening block party for The Veil’s flagship taproom in Scott’s Addition. The brewery is celebrating seven years in business with eats from its new in-house concept, Nokoribi, plus a Young Mother pop-up. The party goes from 12 p.m.-12 a.m. on Moore Street.
Edu
  • RPS is getting a new fiber network for all of its school campuses. The district has contracted WANRack to provide unlimited bandwidth, better security, and faster speeds across city schools.
Number
  • $25 million. That’s how much Bon Secours could spend to construct an emergency services and imaging center in Ashland. The project needs state approval, but could open in early 2025. (Richmond BizSense)
History
  • The Library of Virginia is now mobile. LVA On the Go is a big purple vehicle tricked out with everything the library needs to bring special programming around the Commonwealth — including an oral history station, digital records, and crafts for kids. See the tour schedule. (RVAHub)
Film
  • See 33 short films for free at the 4th Annual 60 Second Short Film Fest on Saturday, May 13 at 7 p.m. Screenings will be held at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center on Old Brook Road. Awards will honor the best documentary, animation, live action, and environmental films.
Active
  • Sign up to run or walk the Hardywood West Creek 5K on Saturday, May 6 at 9 a.m. Register by Friday, April 28 to get a t-shirt. Proceeds will benefit the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
Opening
  • The Children’s Tower — Richmond’s new home for pediatric inpatient, emergency and trauma care — opens April 30. You might not know when, but you’ll always know where: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.*
Finance
  • Refinance rates are skyrocketing. But home equity rates remain relatively low — which means that now is a great time to borrow against your home. Calculate your payment.*
Holiday
  • Morgen ist Earth Day. Translate this news with Babbel (currently offering 55% off lessons) in The Wrap at the bottom of our newsletter.*
Shop
  • We’re firm believers in spoiling the ones we love — especially our pets. That’s why we’re adding these two things to our shopping carts: this customizable velvet collar and this durable bed that features a removable slipcover. Don’t forget the treats. We love these soft chews for doggos and these freeze dried snacks for cats.
  • Celebrate Earth Day by supporting some of our Six & Main brands. Rainier Watch, a business inspired by mountains, gives a portion of its sales to organizations that protect National Parks, and Plant Based Candles allows customers to reuse the vessel as a planter with wildflower seeds included in each order.
