Every mom deserves a special gift from our Mother’s Day Gift Guide. | Graphic provided by 6AM City
This year, instead of grabbing a last-minute present from the store, why not get the mom figure in your life a gift that is truly unique?

To help you out, we’ve created a gift guide featuring items from our online store, Six & Main, as well as products we love from other popular brands.

Moms are important to us all year, but Mother’s Day is when we can really show how special they truly are to us. From presents for the food and beverage fan to the art collector, let this gift guide lead you to the perfect present.

The outdoor enthusiast
The art collector
  • Add to mom’s art collection with pieces featuring dramatic skies, panoramic mountain vistas, and small-town area street scenes by Jeff Pittman Art.
  • For coastal vibes, explore colorful artwork by Dream a little ART SC.
  • If the walls are already full of beautiful art, fear not. This modern ceramic vase is the perfect decorative accent. Bonus: this vibrant coffee table book is chock-full of exquisite scenes from Mykonos.
The fashion lover
While this list is a great way to start shopping for mom, we’re working to grow our store, Six and Main, and would love to add more local vendors. If you know any local brands we should be promoting, let us know.

Wait, there’s more... Click the button below to explore presents for mothers who love home decor, snacks, beverages, and more.
Keep shopping for mom

News Notes
Traffic
  • Travel or live near Jackson Ward? The city is evaluating converting the section of Brook Road between West Clay and North Adams Streets into a one-way street southbound — that would be toward Adams and Broad Street. Take the survey before Thursday, May 11.
Civic
  • The city’s Neighborhood Clean-Up Program will collect items in the Maymont, Byrd Park, Oregon Hill, and Carillon areas tomorrow. Leave anything you want to throw away — including mattresses, furniture, and appliances — curbside or in your alley. Be sure to check the list of unacceptable items.
Transit
  • Look out for GRTC representatives in yellow vests on your next bus ride. They’re doing rider surveys in order to improve future bus service. Participate and you could win one of 200 McDonald’s gift cards.
Development
  • Two tenants are lined up for the upcoming Springline development in Chesterfield. Chesterfield County Public Schools will relocate its administrative offices to the site; the county’s economic development department will also move to a new building. (Richmond BizSense)
  • VCU has opened its new STEM building on Franklin Street, which has been in the works since 2019. The building will serve 10,000+ students starting in the fall. (VCU News)
Sports
  • Athletes from 10 different states will face off in Richmond this weekend at the USA Rugby Atlantic Super Regional Club Playoffs. 26 men’s and women’s club teams will play for a spot in the national contest. Games will take place at Glover Park in Henrico and fans are welcome to watch for free.
  • If you’re watching the NBA playoffs, look out for No. 74 — referee No. 74, that is. Former professional basketball player and University of Richmond alum Curtis Blair is now an official for the NBA, after working his way up from middle school and JV games in the 804. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Eat
  • Sunday is the last day of Richmond Restaurant Week. Make a reservation before then to enjoy a three-course meal at a local restaurant and benefit Feed More at the same time.
Shop
  • We’ve got a good feeling about this. Oregon Hill’s Cobblestore is hosting a “Star Wars” themed vintage market on Thursday, May 4 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Paix Espresso and Smashed RVA will also be on hand for coffee in the morning and burgers for lunch.
Home
  • It’s time to start getting ready for warmer weather, Richmond. Is your air conditioning in need of service? Woodfin - Your Home Team has you covered. Learn more about their offerings.*
Opening
  • The Children’s Tower — Richmond’s new home for pediatric inpatient, emergency and trauma care — opens April 30. You might not know when, but you’ll always know where: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.*

Finance
  • Refinance rates are skyrocketing. But home equity rates remain relatively low — which means that now is a great time to borrow against your home. Calculate your payment.*

Travel

Don’t board an airplane without this item

A small white AirFly device next to a passport, headphones, ear buds, and a plane ticket.
Goodbye, cheap airline headphones; hello, incredible sound quality. | Photo by 6AM City
Picture the place in your house where you store you suitcases. Is there room for a two-by-two inch item weighing 15 grams? If yes, we recommend you buy this item immediately — vacation you of the future will thank you.

Meet the AirFly wireless audio transmitter, AKA your ticket to watching — and actually enjoying — the in-flight movie entertainment on your next trip.

AirFly eliminates the need for wired headphones by plugging into a headphone jack then connecting via Bluetooth to your earbuds or wireless headphones.

Reviewers highlight great sound quality — not to mention, you won’t have to humble yourself before your travel companions and ask for a spare pair of wired headphones (or use the cheap ones the airline passes out).

Bonus: Upgrade to the AirFly Duo to share audio between two pairs of headphones, or get the AirFly Pro for all that plus even more audio options.
