Put on your learning caps, RIC. You likely rely on an HVAC to keep you cool in the summer. Read on to learn five tips from the experts at Woodfin - Your Home Team that will help you stay sweat-free this season (or identify when it’s time to replace your unit).

Tip #1: Schedule preventative maintenance to prolong the life of your unit (and save money).

During preventative maintenance, Woodfin - Your Home Team will measure numerous pressures, temperatures + amp draws, and make sure your unit runs smoothly for the entire season — which results in money-saving energy optimization.

Tip #2: Keep your outdoor units clean and clear, and eliminate clutter around your indoor unit.

Keeping outdoor units free of grass, leaves, bushes, and other debris will help your unit breathe, drain, and transfer heat properly.

Limiting clutter around your indoor unit will:
  • Allow for easier access during preventative maintenance checks
  • Mitigate accidental damage
  • Help prevent disconnects being blocked and/or broken due to debris
Tip #3: Regulate your home’s temperature rather than turning it on and off as needed.

Keeping the temperature of home at a constant temperature will keep your home more comfortable and decrease run times compared to cycling the thermostat on + off.

Tip #4: Monitor your energy bills to help you make sure your system is functioning properly.

Keeping an eye on your utility bills can alert you of an issue, especially in the heating season. Think: A significant increase in usage could indicate emergency heat is running more, a heat pump part has failed, or refrigerant is leaking.

Tip #5: Frequent repairs? Time to consider a system replacement.

When major components begin to fail, it’s a good idea to compare repair vs. replacement options. Oftentimes, the cost of repairs can match or outweigh replacement cost.

Ready to buy a new unit (or does yours need a tune up)? See how the experts at Woodfin can help keep you cool this summer.
