Saguaro Hill — aka the Cactus House — is set to be razed. The Glen Allen home of Chloe and J.T. “Buz” Pemberton has been a recognizable abode on Staples Mill Road for over four decades. The contents of the home are being auctioned off online.
Grindstaff Auction Marketing Group hosted an open house on Saturday, Nov. 4, inviting the public into the home for the first time in several years. The Pembertons had been known to offer tours of their home to benefit Henrico Humane Society in the nineties and early 2000s.
The house’s entryway led to a stone bridge with water features.

The ranch-style home is filled with unique items, accumulated from 40+ years of collecting. Inside the house, a now-antique television is set into the wall, an Ed Trask mural decorates the bathroom, and hand-painted exercising cats adorn the exercise room.
The walls of an office room are covered in newspaper articles and ephemera, including a handwritten note from a couple looking for a Southwestern-style setting for their wedding announcement.
The exterior of the property features a pool, a pond, a greenhouse (up for auction), and tons of cacti.
There are several statues up for auction.

Online bidding in the auction is open now and closes tomorrow. Items include the iconic Saguaro Hill entrance gate, Southwestern art pieces, records, books, landscaping boulders, pottery, cowboy boots, and more.
If you get an item, pick up will take place at the house on Saturday, Nov. 11. Just make sure to bring some help if you buy the covered wagon.
