GRTC introduces proposed changes for next 10+ years of Richmond transit
How do you picture Richmond transit in 2033? | Photo by RICtoday
GRTC is in the midst of creating its Transit Strategic Plan, which will outline the transit company’s goals in Richmond for the next decade. Now in the second phase of the planning process, GRTC has released a series of proposed changes including route updates, additions, and service improvements.
🚌 Background
Where should the bus go? Should it stay free? What neighborhoods need microtransit? GRTC is asking the public all these questions and more — you can let them know your answers by filling out this survey before Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Recommendations span from expanding hours of service and increasing frequencies to adding entire routes. Here are a few highlights:
East-West Pulse | Extending the Pulse line west from Willow Lawn to Parham Road by adding two stations, plus improving frequencies
North-South BRT | Introducing a North-South version of the Pulse that starts on Chamberlayne at Azalea Avenues, goes downtown, crosses the Manchester Bridge, then travels down Hull Street and Midlothian Turnpike
Route 1 | Expand Route 1 north to reach the Virginia Center Commons redevelopment site
Airport Express | Add an express route to Richmond International Airport from downtown
One pop-up event is at the new Downtown Transfer Station.

Unwrap the gift of giving
Do yourself and others a favor by shopping with our partners that give back. | Photo by 6AM City
This Giving Tuesday, we’re excited to shine a light on our Six & Main brand partners that give back to various communities.
These small businesses are members of 1% For the Planet, partner with food banks, donate to animal rescue groups, and more.
I’ve got my eye on a few screenings at The Byrd next month. The schedule also includes two classic Meg Ryan romantic comedies — “You’ve Got Mail” next week and “When Harry Met Sally” closer to New Year’s Eve.
