The Dept. of Parks and Recreation released a sneak peek of its priorities for 2024. Mentioned goals include officially becoming a Bee City, adding a splash pad at Calhoun Community Center, and repairing the Texas Beach Tower — which has been closed since Sept. 2022.
Development
The Diamond District is getting an additional $1 million from the city’s Economic Development Authority to keep the new stadium planning process on track. The funds will go towards ongoing design and development work for the facility. (Richmond BizSense)

National chain Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille is opening at Short Pump Town Center on Monday, Feb. 5. It’ll be the first Virginia outpost for the Texas-based restaurant.

Have electronics you’d like to recycle? CVWMA and Securis are hosting an event tomorrow in Henrico at 8419 Glazebrook Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the list of acceptable items and fees before attending.
Eat
Richmond Vegan Action is bringing back its food and drink week Jan. 23-28. There are 25+ local businesses participating in V72x2 this year, with more to be announced.
Regional
A new roller coaster could be in Kings Dominion’s future. The amusement park filed plans with Hanover County which indicate a replacement ride near the site of Volcano: The Blast Coaster, which closed in 2019. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Know a group working to help animals in our community? They could be a good candidate for a grant from the William A. Harrison Jr. Foundation. Eligible nonprofits can apply for a piece of the ~$20,000 pie this cycle.

Mark your calendar for two new exhibits opening at the Iridian Gallery at Diversity Richmond on Friday, Jan. 12. There will be an opening reception for the exhibitions from 7 to 9 p.m.
“FREE PLAY!” is a series of video games made by queer artists and developers. The games explore the idea of queerness through narrative and mechanics.
“The Aftermath” is a solo exhibition from local painter Justice Dwight. Their acrylic and glitter paintings take inspiration from Ballroom and House culture.
Both exhibits will remain on display until Feb. 23. The gallery is open every day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
