🔮 The future of Mayo Island
What do you want for the future of Mayo Island?
Mayo Island will soon be part of the James River Park System. | Photo by RICtoday
The city recently closed the deal to purchase Mayo Island through a partnership with Capital Region Land Conservancy.
The $15 million deal brings the city one step closer to converting the island into a public park. Back in April when the city announced its intentions to buy the island, we asked readers and followers what they wanted to see on Mayo Island.
Ideas ranged from recreational opportunities to community resources to natural refuges.
We heard wishes for a skate park, a disc golf course, or a paved trail for walking, running, biking, and rolling. A space for a farmers market, a play ground, a nature walk, a small stage, and a community garden were also suggested.

I love this Richmond-inspired LEGO skyline. It was shared on RVA Reddit by Ben Edlavitch, who competed alongside his grandfather on the TV competition “LEGO Masters” this year.
