If you like your baseball with fireworks, superheroes, and giveaways galore, then get ready to bookmark some of this year’s themed games. Individual tickets for games go on sale at Nutzy’s Block Party on Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m., then online at 11 a.m.

Celebrate America’s birthday with America’s pastime and Super Blast fireworks on the 4th, encore fireworks on the 5th, and Glow Night on the 6th.
National Hot Dog Day | July 10

Safety cameras have been installed near Linwood Holton Elementary and Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts. Drivers who speed in these zones will begin receiving tickets in the mail on Monday, March 18.

The Richmond School Board adopted Superintendent Jason Kamras’s budget proposal last week, with a few adjustments. Pro tip: The budget focus now shifts to Mayor Levar Stoney, who will include RPS in his proposal to City Council. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

You’ll soon be able to get Tarrant’s Café’s famous she-crab soup at retail locations. The popular item has been on the menu since 2006. It’ll be on sale at the restaurant locations first, then farmers markets, then grocery stores. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

River City Roller Derby opens the 2024 season on Thursday, March 7 with a home team showdown at Rollerdome. For $5 at the door, watch Poe’s Punishers take on the Hollywood Undertakers — plus enjoy a raffle, bake sale, and live music.

Home Again is seeking donations of household items to help local families in need. If you have like-new bed frames, tables, toasters, dishes, silverware, bedding, or other items, reach out via email.

The Office of Elections is holding an “I Voted” sticker design contest open to VCU students. Submissions are due April 1, then a public voting period will take place. The winner will get a $1000 Amazon gift card and will have their design used at all city polling locations.

Looking for local summer camp options? The RFM Summer Camp Expo is this Saturday, March 2 at the Science Museum of Virginia. The free event will feature 40+ day and sleepaway camps, activities for kids, an appearance by Nutzy, and free passes to the museum for a future visit.
Outdoors
Get your hands dirty and meet new friends at Birdhouse Community Garden work days. Anyone can come help out every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. starting in March. Light snacks and tools are provided.
