Traffic
  • DPU will begin to conduct emergency repairs on a collapsed sewer main on Forest Hill Avenue between Hathaway and Cherokee Roads soon. In the meantime, the eastbound lane and right turn lanes are closed. There is no impact to water service in the neighborhood.
Edu
  • Woodville Elementary will add 20 days to its calendar next school year. Fairfield Court and Cardinal ES have seen success in reducing absenteeism and learning loss as part of the RPS 200 pilot program. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Development
  • City Council is considering a different way of financing the construction of the new ballpark to replace the Diamond. Instead of issuing bonds through a community development authority, it would use its own bonds to fund the project. Get all the details. (Richmond BizSense)
Number
  • $500,000. That’s how much the city will receive from an Energy Future Grant from the federal Dept. of Energy. Richmond will partner with PlanRVA, local nonprofit Viridiant, surrounding counties, and the Chickahominy Indian Tribe – Eastern Division to provide immediate energy burden relief to Richmonders.
Outdoors
  • Enjoy a walk around Bryan Park accompanied by the Richmond Symphony at Mile of Music on Saturday, May 11 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The free event is self-paced, so you can enjoy multiple mini-concerts along the route.
Concert
  • Free after-work concerts return to the Main Street Station patio next month. Shows will start at 5:45 p.m. each Thursday, beginning with Brencore All-Stars on May 9. Check out the full schedule.
Theater
  • See a free, one-night only production of “Love’s Labor’s Lost” at the Gottwald Playhouse on Saturday, May 4. For this Bootleg Shakespeare production, actors will start rehearsing the day of the performance and are responsible for their lines, costumes, and props. Tickets will be released day-of at 6 p.m.

The Other Tea Parties | April 11 | 7 p.m. | Belmont Rec Center | Did you know there were roughly 17 other tea parties apart from the famous Boston one, including one in Virginia? Historian Bert Dunkerly will discuss the role these events played in the growing conflict with England.

Henricus History Hike | April 27 | 1 p.m. | Henricus Historical Park | Learn about the Revolutionary War Battle of Osborne’s Landing with a lecture and a two-mile hike on the route of the Virginia militia.

James Monroe Day Ceremony | April 28 | 11 a.m. | Hollywood Cemetery | Gather at Monroe’s gravesite for this annual presentation of wreaths and comments from local and state leaders.
