There are several garden sites waiting for go-getting growers. You can also search for gardens we didn’t mention this time around.

Ready to get your hands dirty? Search the Community Foundation page for garden activities, or read our conversation with local master gardener Don Moore to learn how to start a garden of your own.

Turns out our readers are generous with their time. Around 48% of respondents said they volunteer at least once a week, and less than 15% said they rarely do at all. If you’re looking to spend more time giving back — and if community gardens aren’t really your thing — we’ve got a full guide to local organizations offering volunteer opportunities.
