Chesterfield County opened the final section of the reimagined Harrowgate Park last week. The park now totals 44 acres and includes a large central green space, a paved walking trail, a picnic shelter with restrooms, and a playground with a zipline.
Development
Two hotels and two restaurants are coming to the former Virginia Center Commons site. Shamin Hotels is spearheading a mixed-use development with a Home2 Suites and Residence Inn near the new Henrico Sports & Events Center. (Richmond BizSense)

Gallery5 is making improvements to its Jackson Ward space, including moving the stage, upgrading sound and lighting equipment, and installing an ADA compliant ramp. The nonprofit is accepting donations to help reach its $20,000 goal for renovations.

Festival
Mark your calendar for the 26th Annual Asian American Celebration this Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The free fest will include dance, music, and martial arts performances, plus games, cultural booths, and a variety of foods.

Union Market has kicked off its Music on the Patio series. Get dinner or a drink and enjoy live tunes every Sunday from 6 to 8:45 p.m. through the end of June, weather permitting.
Pets
Dorey Dog Park in Henrico will be closed for the month of May. The county is installing canopies, benches, concrete borders, and some landscaping. Need a park replacement? Check out our map of local dog parks.
Cause
River City Magnolias is in the midst of their summer swimsuit drive. Donate new or gently used swimsuits, goggles, and towels through July 4. You can drop off donations at Gather’s Arts District, Scott’s Addition, and Short Pump locations, or at Swansboro City Pool.

Budget season for fiscal year 2025 is coming to a close, but there are a few meetings left on the books to stay informed and make your voice heard.
On Monday, April 29, City Councilmembers discussed their submitted amendments to Mayor Stoney’s budget at its final budget work session. Mark your calendar for a special meeting on Monday, May 6 at 1 p.m. where the amendments will be introduced.
The final public hearing for the amended budget will take place on Monday, May 13 during Council’s formal meeting at 6 p.m.
