Richmond has no shortage of places to enjoy a cool drink. When it’s hot out, look no further than our map to find a treat near you — whether you’re in the mood for a smoothie, juice, kombucha, or frozen margarita.

We asked our Instagram followers to shout out their favorite places to cool off with a beverage. We also did some of our own refreshing research — it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Heads up: The map doesn’t include coffee or ice cream, but good news — we already have guides to both.

Explore our ultimate map by clicking the button below.

Bonus: The map is interactive, so feel free to endorse your favorite places with a like and tell us what spots we need to add.

Try This
  • Blast to the past at Science on Tap: 80s Night on Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Science Museum of Virginia. Enjoy retro arcade games, ‘80s trivia, food trucks, brews, and craft cocktails, alongside activities inspired by iconic ‘80s hits. Snag tix.*
Wellness
  • This hearing device is not for everyone… because not everyone wants to talk to other people. (We’re sometimes in our introvert era, too.) But if you do want to have clear conversations, meet the first hearing aid designed with conversation in mind. Bonus: It’s so small, it’s basically unnoticeable.*

Traffic

A new look for this Forest Hill intersection

In August, the Department of Public Works will begin a two-part project to improve the intersection of Forest Hill Avenue and Semmes Avenue.

The first phase will include removing the traffic signal at the three-way intersection of Forest Hill, Semmes, and Dundee. DPW will add a temporary signal at 34th and Semmes as well as sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb ramps.

Forest Hill will also become a one-way street heading east between Semmes and 34th Street. The formerly westbound lane will be converted into 23 back-in parking spaces.

In the second phase, DPW will make the 34th and Semmes signal permanent. It will also add a pedestrian crossing with a hybrid beacon somewhere on Forest Hill Avenue, west of Carson Street.

Nearby businesses will remain open during construction.

Last week, we tested your sturgeon knowledge

32% of respondents correctly identified the untrue statement. While sturgeon do return to the river to spawn, they do so in the fall and spring, not in the middle of summer.

You can learn more about the Great Return this September on a James River Association sturgeon trip.
