Summer might be over, but don’t let cooler weather get you down — if you ask us, ice cream is a year-round treat.
It’s no secret that Richmond’s got ice cream options galore, but you can find great milkshakes all over the city. Here are a few of our top recommendations.
Ice cream parlors
Spotty Dog, Church Hill
Reader Phyllis E. told us this New England-style ice cream shop is her go-to for a milkshake, specifically the coffee flavor.
Scoop, The Fan
This local ice cream parlor needs no introduction — it’s the No. 26 ice cream parlor in the country on Yelp. While you can order a milkshake made from any flavor, City Editor David particularly loves the s’mores shake.
Any of your favorite flavors at Scoop can be made into milkshakes.

The Lazy Cow, Mechanicsville
According to reader Melecio S., Lazy Cow milkshakes are the Richmond area’s “best shakes, hands down.”
Ray’s Italian Ice, multiple locations
Ray’s offers frozen custard shakes in several flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, banana, and coffee. Or, if you’re in the mood for a less traditional shake experience, try a Rocket: Vanilla custard mixed with the Italian ice of your choice.
Restaurants
Westwood Fountain, West End
Reader Betty J. cited this diner inside Westwood Pharmacy as her favorite local shake stop. Westwood’s been in business for over 50 years — no wonder it’s perfected its milkshake game.
Beauvine Burger Concept, The Fan
Beauvine’s got a menu of creative milkshakes to accompany their famous burgers, including Rostov’s French roast coffee, salted maple caramel, and Guayaquil 64% dark chocolate. It sources both its milk and ice cream from Virginia’s iconic Homestead Creamery.
Ellie’s Hot Dogs, Sherwood Park
While Ellie’s might be better known for its franks, the hot dog stand also features a diverse menu of milkshakes, including the Dog Bowl — which features chocolate ice cream, caramel sauce, crushed Oreos, and whipped cream.

Suede Chelsea boots — they’re the perfect fall/winter staple for your closet that offers you comfortable wear with ankle support and a slim silhouette.
Don’t let this lovely fall weather deter you from enjoying a milkshake this week. I’m a big believer that hot coffee and ice cream treats ought to be enjoyed year-round.
