The restaurant family behind Mom’s Siam is opening a new concept in the former Pik Nik space in the Fan. The Kiatsuranons closed Pik Nik during the pandemic, but are now preparing to open Thai Boat in early 2025. (Richmond BizSense)
Closing
8½ is closing its Church Hill location in December. The Italian takeaway spot operated in the neighborhood for around seven years. The Fan location will remain open. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Community
Henrico’s new composting program kicks off today. County residents can drop off used pumpkins — carved is fine, but not painted — at two public use areas. Going forward, compost bins will be present at these areas for kitchen scraps. Pro tip: Richmond residents also have free composting options. (12 On Your Side)
Travel
Petersburg now has its first boutique hotel. The restored Petersburg Hotel, which has been vacant for several decades, has 64 rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop lounge, and two bars. Overnight stays will begin in early December. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Festival
Chesterfield is bringing back the two large events it debuted this year. Chesterfield Restaurant Week will be April 4-13 and Outdoor Fest will take place on May 31.
Health
Richmond and Henrico Health Districts have identified three priority areas after analyzing the results of the Community Health Assessment. RHHD will focus on mental health, community safety, and chronic diseases — see how you can get involved.
Finance
Inflation may be cooling, but car insurance premiums aren’t. Why? All insurance is now priced in real-time — so repair times, parts shortages, and credit scores all play a part in the final price. Take Money’s questionnaire on your best car insurance experience to see if you can save.*
The Buy
The Buy
A whole room space heater. Save $30 on a small but mighty space heater with a focus on safety — it has tip-over protection, a cool touch case, and will automatically shut off if overheated.
I’m crossing my fingers and ready to cheer on the Kickers in the first round of the playoffs this weekend. Remember to reserve your space at the free watch party at City Stadium this Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m.
