Civic

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts was recommended approval from the state’s Art and Architectural Review Board on its new wing expansion. The project is in the final stages of approval, now awaiting a nod from the Department of General Services to officially move forward. (Richmond BizSense)

Development

The Ellen Glasglow House could find new life as a boutique hotel, according to plans by the new owners. The historic mansion was purchased by Bryon and Nicole Jessee — owners of Shyndigz — and the couple are now working with a local construction company on a major transformation. (Richmond BizSense)

Poppy the newborn pygmy hippo is popping off in Richmond, and now you can meet the viral sensation. The Metro Richmond Zoo announced a new hippo experience where visitors can spend time with Poppy and Iris for 30 minutes.

Eat

Richmond’s vegan restaurant week — V72x2 — is fully underway and runs through Sunday, Jan. 26. Participating restaurants have been challenged to add new innovative dishes to their menu specifically for this week, ranging from dinner entrees to themed cocktails to baked goods, all made without animal products.
