🌨️ Here comes the snow

Another snow day is on the calendar this week for RVA.

Forecasters are predicting 4-9 inches of snow in Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 19 + Thursday, Feb. 20. Additionally, freezing temperatures, wind, and flooding are all strong possibilities during and after the winter storm.

As a result, some rivers — including the James River at Richmond Locks — are under a flood warning. These will remain under the warning until further notice, per the National Weather Service.

A majority of the snow is expected Wednesday afternoon and the first half of Thursday, according to NWS reports. This will also bring icy conditions to southern parts of the state, making travel “difficult to impossible” for some areas. Other areas are expected to be inconvenienced, so it’s best to check with VDOT for updates.

So what caused this storm? Wind data shows jet streams could be playing a big role here, and you can read all about them here.

I had a blast watching all the SNL coverage, especially Sunday night’s show. The Q+A with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler was the best sketch of the entire evening, and I will not be taking any questions about that fact.
