Mansion Monday

Welcome to the Love Island Richmond villa. This five-bedroom, five-bathroom home just hit the market on River Road. The interior is magazine-worthy (hello, air-conditioned sunroom), but it’s the charming Italian-style facade, 10-car driveway, and saltwater pool that really grab our attention.

Outdoors

What’s that buzzing? Mosquito season is here, and according to Orkin data, Richmond ranks No. 30 on its list of cities with the biggest swarms — so be prepared for some pesky guests next time you head to the park.

History

The US Treasury Department has placed its last order for penny blanks and announced plans to stop making the one-cent coin. Production is expected to end in early 2026 for the coin first minted in 1793, making the penny nearly as old as the city of Richmond. Interested in some more fun facts? (Newsweek)

Made in Richmond. Yep, that has a nice ring to it. We’ve rounded up 50+ businesses originating in the River City — but first, some cookie-breaking news.

RVA’s ice cream empire

You’ve undoubtedly seen Nightingale’s perfectly packaged ice cream sandwiches around town, tempting you on every warm, sunny day. Well, the Richmond-based biz is expanding big-time.

Announced last week via press release, Nightingale is slated to develop a $5.8 million production facility + corporate headquarters in the city, introducing 166 new jobs. If that isn’t the cherry on top of this homegrown guide, I don’t know what is.

More Richmond businesses making waves:

Keya’s and Co.
This local potato chip company is led by Richmond-based chef Keya Wingfield, winner of the Food Network’s 2021 “Spring Baking Championship.”

Joyebells
This company’s sweet potato, pumpkin, and peach pies originate from recipes passed down for generations.

Belle Isle Moonshine
Moonshine is its specialty, but this brand also jumped into the canned cocktail game + sells merch.
