News Notes

Three boxes of Girl Scouts "exploremores" cookies are displayed outdoors on a stone surface with a lush green forest background. The packaging features a photo of smiling children lying on the grass beside stacks of chocolate cookies. The scene evokes a feeling of adventure and playfulness.

You’ll be able to buy boxes of this new flavor and your beloved favorites from January through April (local timing varies).

Announced

Move over, Thin Mints, we’re saving our money for boxes of Exploremores — Girl Scouts of the USA’s newest cookie. The rocky road ice cream-inspired sandwich cookie will debut in 2026. Sign up to be the first to know when they hit the market in the River City.

Eat

What’s the best chicken sandwich in Virginia? According to Tasting Table, it’s NOVA-based Wooboi’s Thousand Sunny sandwich, where the chicken is the bread, instead of the filling. Who has the best chicken sandwich here in RVA? Share your take.

Mansion Monday

The double-decker porches are enough to sell us on this farmhouse Colonial. The six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 10 private acres? An added bonus. Still, we’re fine with staying outside for now, especially since there’s also a hot tub, pool, and wooded trail access. See for yourself (and check out the inside too).

Plan Ahead

How many Swifties do we have in the house? The Broadberry will host “The Life of a Showgirl: Midnight Release Party” on Thursday, Oct. 2, celebrating Taylor Swift’s upcoming album. Dance along as a live DJ plays through the entire album + the venue hosts giveaways, lip-sync battles, and a costume contest.

Watch

The destination is set for “The White Lotus” Season 4, and it’s looking very French. Filming hasn’t started yet, so there’s plenty of time to enroll in a crash course of the language — or, you could start pairing your watch parties with pastries from Le Petit Morceau. (Deadline)
There she is. Miss New York, Cassie Donegan, was crowned Miss America 2026 on Sunday, Sept. 7. Donegan earned more than $50,000 in scholarships and is the eighth Miss New York to win Miss America. In case you were wondering, Miss Virginia last won in 1979. (People)

Sports

Celebrate RVA Community Night with the Richmond Kickers as they take on Portland Hearts of Pine on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at City Stadium. The first 1,500 fans to arrive will receive a free Red Out T-shirt. Psst… TikTok sensation Deanna Giulietti will sing the National Anthem. Snag tix.*

Pets

You insure your phone… but not your pet? One accident could cost $10,000. Pet insurance can help cover the unexpected, with plans starting at $10/month and offering up to 90% coverage. Learn more.*

The Wrap

My RVA chicken sandwich picks: Cobra Cabana + Liberty Public House. Cobra reps the Chicken Hen Shot First sandwich with buttermilk chicken, grilled challah, and either a Buffalo or Nashville hot flavor. Liberty’s menu packs another hot chicken choice + a new AC Smash sandwich — country-fried chicken smothered in Cajun pimento cheese and bacon jam.

Those win me over, but I’m open to persuasion. Think you can change my mind? Let’s see what you’ve got.
