Who’s down for a day-trip to Doswell? | Photo courtesy of the State Fair of Virginia
The State Fair of Virginia returns Friday, Sept. 26, through Sunday, Oct. 5 in Doswell — about a 45-60 minute drive from Richmond.
We’re here to help streamline the information for you so you can snag your tickets and get straight to the good ol’ times. Plus, keep an eye out for my top picks + a few faves from NOVAtoday’s newsletter editor, Ava Wojnowski.
Stop by the Horticulture Pavilion to see the fair’s winning agricultural anomalies.
Free parking will be available at Meadow Event Park, and premium parking costs $22.50.
Events + entertainment
Throw a dart at the fairgrounds map, and it’s bound to land on something entertaining. Literally speaking, the state fair scheduled 300+ hours of family entertainment over its nine-day run, and we spotlighted some of our favorites.
Signage will be posted at all camera locations, and $50 citations for red light violations will begin after a 30-day grace period — click on the photo for a better look.

Transit
The City of Richmond plans to install safety cameras at 10 high-risk intersections starting at the end of September. Locations were selected based on crash patterns and red-light violation data. A few included intersections: 25th Street + Main Street, Belvidere Street + Cary Street, and Belt Boulevard + Hull Street Road.
Development
The Fan’s long-planned boutique hotel, Shenandoah Mansions, has hit a snag in development. Earlier this week, a judge ruled that a mechanic’s lien (legal claim) against the hotel is valid. Although the hotel was near completion, the future of its development is unclear. (CBS 6)
Seasonal
Change of plans? See what this Reddit user envisioned for a timely Diamond renovation. All jokes aside, Spirit Halloween stores appear to pop up in a matter of minutes. In fact, one has already filled a Joanne Fabric + Crafts vacancy here in Richmond, following its company-wide closure earlier this year.
