News Notes

Closing

Beginning tonight, Chesterfield County’s Henricus Park Road will close from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily until further notice due to work being done by Dominion Energy. Henricus Historical Park will also close its parking lot nightly during the closures, but the boat landing shouldn’t be impacted. (WRIC)

Teamwork makes the dream work — at least that’s what Richmond city leaders are hoping. Mayor Avula announced the launch of a new task force last week, aimed at increasing community input for the city’s budget. Stay tuned for upcoming public meetings to make your voice heard, starting in December. (WRIC)

Regional

$3.9 billion. That’s the approximate amount visitors spent in the Richmond region in 2024 — a 4.7% increase from 2023. Why the growth? Tourism leaders cite things like the construction of Allianz Amphitheatre, a resurgence in NASCAR, and the area’s unique Tourism Improvement District as key factors. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Outdoors

Better be-leaf it. The City of Richmond’s annual leaf collection program will kick off one week from today on Monday, Oct. 6. Arts

Be our guest. Disney’s touring production of “Beauty and the Beast” will make a six-day stop at Richmond’s Altria Theater in March. It’ll be the first time the musical has toured North America in more than 25 years — tickets are on sale now. (WRIC)

Zavacephale rinpoche. That’s the name researchers are giving to a dinosaur species recently discovered in Mongolia. How do you take your coffee? For me, my usual pick is an iced caramel macchiato, but this fall, I’ve been switching it up to something a bit more seasonal with a pumpkin pie latte from my favorite local shop. Give us your go-to brew.
