A sign saying "Welcome to / Claire's Antiques / Oddballs Collectibles" and surrounding Halloween decorations: a black spider, several ghosts, and a Michael Myers mannequin.

Go old-school with your Halloween decorations this year, and support local resale shops while you’re at it.

Odd Balls Collectibles + Claire’s Antiques, just 15 minutes from central Richmond, is a mix-matched maze of trinkets and treasures. Each corner turns up antique surprises, but you can count on one constant for the time being: lots of nostalgic Halloween goodies.

I love visiting Odd Balls + Claire’s for a good flea market day. Lucky for you, there’s one coming up this Sunday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Just about every news source in Richmond has posed the same question: “Where’s Francine?” Richmond’s beloved “Lowe’s cat” is missing from her West Broad home, prompting a cross-state search with its sights set on a Lowe’s distribution facility in North Carolina. The viral Instagram page @wheresfrancine can provide you with all the details.

Development

What is happening at Hadad’s Lake? After the former water park was sold last summer, it’s unclear what developers have in mind for the 36-acre spot. But the gazebos and the rope swing are no more, and dirt is moving in. (Richmond BizSense)

Open

How does fried chicken, oysters, and beer sound? Bolo’s Eatery is now open, and it’s offering rooftop views of Manchester. We’ve got our eye on the shrimp and oyster po boys. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Despite the rain, thousands showed up for Virginia PrideFest over the weekend. Take a look at the history of Virginia Pride throughout the years. (WRIC + Richmond Magazine)

The Wrap

There are plenty more great spots in Richmond to scout holiday decorations on a budget. Mechanicsville Antiques + Collectibles is another favorite of mine.

Have any more recommendations? We’d love to hear ‘em.
