Environment
Do you have an invasive callery tree on your property? The Virginia Department of Forestry will offer you a replacement tree if you arrange the initial removal. The tree exchange will take place at Hickory Hill Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 8. Replacement trees are available first-come, first-served — registration required. (CBS 6)
Learn
Learn how a VCU conservation biologist Matt Balazik is putting his skills and energy into protecting the Atlantic Sturgeon, both in the James and elsewhere. The prehistoric breed is rare and endangered, but vital to maintaining balanced river ecosystems. (VCU News)
Transit
GRTC’s TAP Into Transit Week isn’t over yet. If you want to help advocate for zero-fare transit, join in on one of the weekly initiatives — donate, stay informed, or take the Transit Challenge. The challenge isn’t all that challenging; simply swap one of your commutes for a bus trip before the week is over.
Asked
Speaking of GRTC, when asking for beginner-friendly bike advice, reader Jacob S. suggests, “learn how to use the GRTC bike racks. That way, you can use your bike to avoid car trips.” We can help reroute you to a little bus bike rack 101. Have any other RVA bicyclist advice? We want to hear it.
