It’s true, cool cats vote, but don’t let the photo deceive you; my cat is not the registered voter behind this report. | Photos by RICtoday, design via Canva
After wrapping up our general election guide, I went out to cast my ballot so you could get an idea of exactly how long early voting may take.
The report:
Travel: I had a 12-minute drive to + from my nearest early-polling location.
Voting: Once I arrived, I started a stopwatch and was back to my car within 7 minutes and 51 seconds. (That includes time spent filling out an updated registration form, which can be done online when checking your registration status).
Overall, I was out and back home within about 30 minutes, and you might even have an early-polling location closer to you.
Craft beer is facing a dry spell. Sales were down 4% last year, and for the first time in 20 years, more breweries have closed than opened nationwide in the last 18 months. Luckily, Richmond’s taps are still flowing — here are a few local breweries to get you started. (The New York Times)
Mansion Monday
Put your eye for design to the test with today’s luxury-living spotlight in Church Hill. Dating back to 1818, this five-bed, five-bath townhouse leans into a refined interior with Heart Pine flooring. Hot take question: Do you prefer a muted look or eccentric color? Take a look, and see what you think.
Eat
Looking for a pizza the action? Richmond didn’t make The Food Network’s 50 States of Pizza Slices list, but we have some hidden gems in our pizza scene. Whether you’re after thin crust, funky toppings, deep dish, or take-out, we’ve got plenty of great pizzerias in town.

The nominees are out for this year’s National Book Awards, with some stellar books on the docket. Categories include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and translated works. Whatever your choice of read, we recommend picking up something written by a Richmonder. (NPR)

Speaking of soccer, don’t score tickets to the Kickers’ final game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The Word
Noctourism. That’s the name of one of this year’s hottest travel trends, in which people soak in experiences after dark. Think: stargazing, night markets, dinner cruises. Given that it’s October, a Halloween haunt is the perfect way to join the fun. (The Traveler)

Prepare the bleep censor — Chef Gordon Ramsay has yet another TV show. “Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars” recently premiered on Apple+ and follows restaurants’ high-stakes hunt for stars of their own. Although Richmond isn’t in the Michelin Guide, we think our food scene deserves to be. (Reuters)
