Just in time for your budget-friendly holiday shopping, behold, our ultimate roundup of Richmond’s secondhand scene, from flea markets and vintage shops to consignment and thrift stores.

Antique shops

Sheppard Street Antiques, Scott’s Addition
  • Reader Jeff M. said this of Sheppard Street: “Truly one of THE BEST antique/vintage shops in town and has been a part of Richmond for years. My go-to shop, always.”
Vintage Glass and Pottery, Lakeside
  • This treasure haven is like a maze, surprising you with one room after another, all filled to the brim with unique (and intimidatingly fragile) glass.
Don’t believe us? Take a look at this room alone.

Consignment shops

Ashby, Carytown
  • With its rotating selection of jewelry, accessories, and local artwork, Ashby is a great if you’re on the hunt for a birthday gift.
Trail Hut, Downtown
  • Find outdoor gear, adventure wear, and essentials at this specialized consignment shop.
Bonus: You’ll be right by Perly’s for a brunch break.

News Notes

Weather

We hope everyone enjoyed another beautiful snowfall. As winter weather continues to roll in, consider looking around for unused hats, gloves, scarves, and coats. Donating them to a local secondhand shop is just one way to help those around you.

Development

Strawberry, Robinson, Stuart, Hanover. A $7.6 million deal changed ownership of 10 buildings in the heart of the Fan, several of which reside on these quintessential streets. See the list of sold properties, which includes familiar spots like Robinson Street Market and Idle Hands Bread Co. (Richmond BizSense)

Announced

The rural romping grounds of Triple Crown champion Secretariat are now permanently protected by the Capital Region Land Conservancy. Historically known as “The Cove,” this 350-acre property in Doswell, VA, is sticking to its rural roots — for good.

Edu

Curious about the construction site at the corner of Broad + Belvidere? That’s VCU’s developing Center for Arts and Innovation, which aims to house programs in arts, opera, tech, theater, gaming — you name it. The final steel beam was placed last week, with completion set for 2027.
The trend of local animal icons inspired the town of Ashland to launch a pet election for honorary Dog Mayor and Cat Police Chief. Residents are encouraged to pair nominations with candidate platforms and slogans. Remember when Francine the Lowe’s cat received literal mayoral votes in last year’s election? (WRIC + Axios)

Sports

Any JMU fans in the crowd? This past Sunday, Dec. 7, James Madison University secured a spot in the College Football Playoffs — see the bracket. The Harrisonburg, VA, team will head to Oregon for a Ducks vs. Dukes face-off on Saturday, Dec. 20. (CBS Sports)

Drink

Picture this: You’re hosting a winter get-together, but you have one last errand before people arrive — a wine run. Don’t panic. Six Richmond wine shop owners joined Style Weekly to share their pairing recommendations and shop faves for a holiday Q+A. Check it out for you next non-hypothetical party.

Holiday

Looking for the perfect gift? The Virginia Lottery’s new holiday Scratchers are great for all the adults on your list: friends, family, or coworkers. You can never go wrong with gifting the Virginia Lottery.*

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Elise

As a born-and-raised budgeter, I’ve done my fair share of secondhand shopping. One of my all-time favorite finds? This Canadian Tuxedo kitchen set at Hope Thrift in Tuckahoe. Alas, I didn’t take this demin-inspired party back home with me, but imagine the conversations it would’ve sparked. Find your own conversation-starter at 50+ local resale shops.
