Did you know? Virginia is home to more than 800,000 small businesses. We want to celebrate all the businesses that make the River City so special.

In honor of our many movers and shakers, we’re asking readers to nominate small businesses they love so we can share them with the whole audience.

We’ll be here to share a new batch of small businesses every month, so bookmark this page to come back for more, especially if you’ve enjoyed our Small Business Week and Today’s Best coverage.

Editor Elise’s pick:
Vonderlehr Tire Pros | Tire shop on Chamberlayne Avenue
The last time I brought my car to Vonderlehr, I waited in the lobby rather than hitching a ride home. Every employee I spoke with was so friendly, and the decor made me think of the show “American Pickers,” which I love.

Plus, once they noticed I was working, someone brought over a little stand to use for my laptop. It’s the little things.

Plan Ahead

Any Hello Kitty fans in the crowd? The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will be making a pit-stop at Short Pump Mall next Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Venture out to the West End for Hello Kitty macarons and cookies, as well as merch, like mugs, plushies, and clothing.

Mansion Monday

How would you feel having 10 open acres all to yourself? We’re heading 30 minutes west of Richmond for today’s rural feature — a 1990 resort-style home more than enough room to frolic. Get a lay of the land. For fun: Find your ideal reading nook. I’ll be in the garden or by the pond.

Holiday

Break out the green — St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, March 17, and save another lucky outfit for the 40th annual Church Hill Irish Festival this weekend, March 21 + 22. Maybe you go every year, but do you know the festival’s history? (12 On Your Side)

Mailbag

When you subscribed to RICtoday, you may have received an email asking for your favorite local restaurant — and yes, we’ve been reading every response. This just in from Reader Claire O. “I’m always delighted to go to Enoteca Sogno [in Bellevue], and I don’t go enough.”

Cause

Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is growing to meet the needs of Virginia children, but it needs your help. Donate to help CHoR continue to provide unstoppable care for kids.*

Tech

Would you ride in an air taxi? Virginia is one of 26 states participating in a three-year pilot program recently approved by the FAA to will test electric aircraft travel, including electric air taxis. The program will allow select companies to trial electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. (TechCrunch, Built In)

Travel

The world’s largest steam engine is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with a coast-to-coast tour. Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 will start on the west coast Sunday, March 29, and travel from California to Wyoming — the eastern leg is being finalized. While we wait, we’re planning our trip on the Silver Meteor.

Bonus small business shoutout: Daverro Gelato. I tried this sweet treat spot in Lakeside for the first time last year and was a fan of the fun flavor options and cute alleyway-style patio seating. You can find their weekly flavors on Instagram, but in case the new list isn’t up yet, here are last week’s flavors.
The front facade of Daverro Gelato Shop, featuring the name in text on the glass window and door, hanging lights on an above awning, potted ferns beside the door, and a two-seat patio couch in front of the shop window.
