Weekend getaways made simple

Last week, we spotlighted eight day-trip ideas in Virginia, but what if you’re looking for an extended stay? Here are a few recommendations for driveable weekend getaways:
Rest + relaxation
Woodstock | ~2.5 hours
Set in Shenandoah Valley, this is a destination for peace of mind. Take in the views from the Woodstock Tower or go for a stroll at Seven Bends State Park.
Wine weekend: Grab a glass at Muse Vineyards, and maybe you can just rent the country cottage next door.

Harper’s Ferry | ~3 hours Okay, we know this is in West Virginia, but it’s a great spot to embrace the incoming warm weather — ideally, floating down the Shenandoah River on a tube.
Active adventure
Virginia Creeper Trail | ~5 hours
A must-see destination for bicyclists, the Creeper Trail stretches 32 miles through the mountains of Appalachia. Plus, opportunities multiply with hiking, fishing, wildlife watching, and small-town dining.

Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) is growing to meet the needs of Virginia’s children.
From building out shell spaces and recruiting top pediatric specialists, to advancing research and expanding programs, the growth ensures CHoR remains among the nation’s best, as recognized by U.S. News & World Report.
But our local hospital can’t do it alone. Donate to help CHoR continue to provide unstoppable care for kids.

Richmond’s Asian Street Food Festival will return for its second run on Saturday, March 28, at the 17th Street Market. “This festival is about more than food,” said the Asian American Society of Central Virginia. Stay tuned for the vendor lineup, which is anticipated to represent “over a dozen distinct Asian culinary traditions.”
Concert
Musician and “Stranger Things” star Joe Keery (Djo) will be visiting Allianz’s riverside stage on the last day of July. Think fast. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m.
Development
Has anyone been to the Costco in western Henrico recently? If so, you might’ve noticed two construction sites bookending West Broad Street. Across the street from Costco, work has begun on an 8,400 sqft retail hub. On Costco’s turf, the company is demolishing and rebuilding a bigger fuel station. (WTVR + Richmond BizSense)
Eat
Downtown lunch fix Christopher’s RunAway Gourmay is back open for the season, with three food carts serving up pastas, breads, and salads. Plus, the longstanding biz revived a limited supply of “Fine Sidewalk Dining” T-shirts, inspired by one of its original 1990s designs.
Announced
“Dirty Dancing,” “The Notebook,” and “Harry Potter.” Those are just a few of the adapted Broadway shows heading to Altria Theater in 2026-2027. See the full lineup and coordinate your calendar.
Seasonal
Medical experts are anticipating a “very bad” allergy season for Richmonders, but what’s new? If you’re already feeling the effects, revisit our pollen survival guide for help braving the season. For example: Did you know pollen counts are typically highest between 5 and 10 a.m.? (12 On Your Side)

This is a very important community documentation, and we wanted to make sure everyone saw. Take a closer look at the poetic pair, referred to as “Richmond Romeo and Juliet.”
One of the best deals this spring: 60% off a lifetime subscription with Babbel. Whether you’re planning a trip, eager to connect with your community, or simply want to stretch your mind, Babbel can help you speak your desired language out loud in as little as three weeks through just 10 minutes of practice a day.
I would really love to see a Renaissance-style painting of “Richmond Romeo and Juliet” (pictured in the Post of the Day). The possom is just like Juliet on her balcony. If you dabble in the arts and feel inspired, genuinely let me know.
