Budget unboxing
Stay tuned as we balance more of Richmond’s proposed budget next week. | Photo by @cwclarke_photos
$3.4 billion. That’s how much Richmond’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget accounts for — a $400 million increase from last year. Before we dive into all 550 pages, let’s start with one way it could impact you.
If you’re a taxpaying Richmonder, most of the budget’s general funding ($1.1B of the $3.4B total) comes from the money you pay in property taxes, consumer taxes, utility taxes + other local and state-distributed taxes.
How could the budget affect those personal costs moving forward?
As reported by The Richmonder, tax rates might not change much, but your utility bills could increase by ~$14 per month on average.
