I riddled together a jester costume and rode out to the inaugural Richmond Renaissance Faire over the weekend. Sold-out ticket sales estimated ~20,000 people in attendance.
My favorite part: Seeing everyone come together for the midday parade with All the Saints Theatrer Company.
The entryway was a popular photo op among attendees.

I must confess, I did not wait in the ever-constant line to get a GWARbar turkey leg, and I regret my foolish impatience. Still, it couldn’t impede my overall delight at joining the first-ever yee ol’ River City Ren Faire.
What’s the next big festival move? Merriment a’plenty awaits.

Special election day. Registered voters can select “yes” or “no” on a proposed redistricting amendment. Find your polling location, join the line before 7 p.m., and don’t forget a valid form of identification. Pro tip: Virginia allows same-day registration at the polls.
Development
Richmond’s Urban Design Committee shared conceptual plans to demolish two dams and restore a stream at Bryan Park. According to the proposal, construction wouldn’t begin until 2028, making now an opportune time for feedback. How about this online survey? Elise here: It took me ~3 minutes to fill out. Eat
It’s Richmond Restaurant Week, but something looks a little different this year — the price. Throughout the week, participating restaurants will offer three-course meals at $42.26. That’s a $7 increase from last year. Regional nonprofit Feed More will receive $5.26 of that cost. (Axios Richmond)
Award
Nominations are open for the 2026 BLK RVA Community Awards, an August celebration honoring Black excellence in Richmond’s business, history, restaurant, and art scenes. Find inspiration with the list of last year’s winners.
Sports
The Flying Squirrels will debut a fresh(water) uniform design at tomorrow evening’s Earth Day + James River Appreciation game. Peep the photoshoot, and if you’re swayed by the style, lock in tickets.
Community
A simple thank-you can go a long way. Send a note to your favorite K-12 public school teacher through this local initiative by May 8, and they could win prizes for themselves or their school.*

“The Goochland [Drive-In Theater] is fully evolved. For that reason, the new owners don’t intend on changing anything,” wrote Style Weekly. The owners of Richmond’s nearest drive-in just passed the movie-night torch, and new leadership appears determined to enhance what works rather than restructure. (Style Weekly)
