Public registration is now open for summer classes at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, running Monday, June 8, through Thursday, Aug. 16.

Classes can fill up fast, but don’t stress too much if you see a waitlist. The calendar is decked out with 100+ beginner-friendly, intermediate, and advanced offerings.

Classes and studio workshops are available for adults and young artists ages 3 and up. Subjects include — but are certainly not limited to — clay art, woodworking, writing, painting, metalworking, and printmaking.

Family Studio Days will take place on Saturdays, priced at $10 per person. Prices vary for adult classes, which are available in both one-day and multi-week formats.

News Notes

Number

A Richmond couple has preserved a 0.43-acre plot of green space in Scott’s Addition since 2012. Now, they intend to pass it over to the Capital Region Land Conservancy for consideration as a public park. A recent assessment of the plot indicates a ~640% increase in real estate value compared to its 2012 purchase price. (WTVR)

Closing

Nonprofit Art 180 plans to close its doors after 27 years of operation due to “financial strain and shifts in funding.” Art 180’s last day is set for Friday, Aug. 28, which grants supporters four months to enjoy final exhibits and series. (Style Weekly)

Try This

Watch the FIFA World Cup from the stands (and for free). City Stadium will host four World Cup Watch Parties, each match cast live on the big screen — the 65’ x 35’ screen, to be exact. Games take place from mid-June to mid-July. Stay tuned for ticket reservations.

Civic

Do you remember taking this budget survey in February? The City of Richmond just released the results, which indicate that residents consistently prioritized education and public safety among seven budget-spending categories. See all seven rankings on page 13 of the report.

Announced

“Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.” That’s the headline production for Richmond’s 69th Annual Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell. The always-free festival brings a new lineup of performance art to the Dell’s amphitheater stage each summer.

Feel Good

“Is this your goat?” Last weekend, Richmond Animal Care + Control (RACC) rescued a shenanigan-stirring goat that had ventured under someone’s house, but the goat’s actual home became a perplexing mystery. An RACC update tells us (with celebratory emojis) the owner has since been found.

The Buy

Pop quiz. What can you wear while 1) driving 2) drinking your morning coffee, or 3) reading this newsletter to look more awake and help under eyes glow? Under eye patches. Be an under eye patch influencer and work these into your morning routine:

👁️ These award-winning under eye patches employ collagen, snail mucin, and hyaluronic acid to get the job done — you should notice an immediate difference in puffiness.
👁️ Go for green tea under eye patches to get the energizing benefits of caffeine directly on your skin — you’ll get 30 in a pack.
👁️ One of the most popular brands is grace & stella. Try a variety pack to learn which key ingredient — whether retinol, caffeine, or firming peptides — makes the biggest difference to your skin.
