We’re about halfway through 2022 if you can believe it and we’re checking in on our New Year’s Resolutions. If your resolution was to get active or to try something new, we’ve got options to shake up your workout.

Dance

Turn Cardio Jam Studio | 3105 W. Moore St. | All fitness levels

This Scott’s Addition studio features in-person + virtual group dance classes, choreographed by personal trainers. The weekly class schedule includes hip hop, pop, rock, jazz + ballet options. Bonus: You can drop in for $25 before committing to a membership. Yoga + lifting group classes are also available.

Barre

City Barre | 1404 Belleville St. | Intermediate fitness level

Barre is a workout based on the stretches + dances of ballet, all done using a waist-high bar. City Barre uses fresh playlists and moves for each class, which are offered Monday-Saturday. Interested? Sign up for two weeks of unlimited classes for $50.

Climbing

Chalk up + get vertical with 100+ lead ropes, auto belays and bouldering areas at one of Peak’s two facilities. Explore routes on your own, or sign up for one of their Intro to Climbing classes to learn the basics. Day passes are $21 + shoe and harness rental. Cycling

Hour Cycle Studio | 715 E. 4th St. | All fitness levels

Turn up the music… turn down the lights for a60-minute indoor studio ride. Join in the high energy hip hop, rap, reggae, soca, and afrobeat rhythms while getting in a good sweat. New riders can drop in for a Studio Session for $25.

Crossfit

For fitness junkies, this gym provides all kinds of Crossfit training with certified personnel to help you achieve any strength and fitness goal. High-impact + versatile classes help those with some lifting experience improve their workouts. Drop ins are only available for experienced Crossfitters, and cost $20.

Boxing

Put up your dukes and learn old-school boxing training through youth, adult + private lessons with in-house experts. Schedule a gym tour ahead of time, as only members have access to sparring classes, the Recovery Room, and Boxing Yoga courses.

Martial Arts

Richmond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self-Defense Academy | 725 W. Broad St. | All fitness levels

Try your hand at hand-to-hand combat. The trainers at this gym have classes and programs for those wanting to protect themselves, have fun, or compete. Contact them to get a gym tour or sign up for a beginners Muay Thai or Jiu-Jitsu course.

No need to swim laps — there are 70+ shallow water, deep water, and land classes available for your H2O fix. These classes are free with a SwimRVA day pass (Adults can get one for $10) or a membership.
