Tomorrow is National Dessert Day. To celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of places to snag a sweet treat around the city.
Since the temps are getting lower, we left traditional ice cream parlors off this list — but check out our previous story for a few recommendations if you’re still craving something cold.
Sunflower Gardenz | 1810 Powhatan St.
Located right by Maymont, everything at this shop is 100% vegan — and 100% delicious. Order baked goods or consult with them to get a custom cake.
- Must try: The Apricot Agave Galette is calling our name.
Shyndigz Market & 2go Cafe | 1831 W. Cary St.
The main restaurant has been closed due to the pandemic, but the Fan market is still slinging sweets. Choose from their rotating schedule of cakes, or try a specialty dessert.
- Must try: Their pumpkin chocolate chip cake, on the monthly schedule for Oct. 20.
Proper Pie | 2505 E. Broad St.
Place an online order for fresh pies by the slice + pick up at the PieHole in Church Hill.
- Must try: Can’t-go-wrong flavors like chocolate mousse, maple walnut + vegan blueberry.
Karmelita’s Confections | Various locations
The shop serves nut and seed free artisan marshmallow desserts. Karmelita’s will be at the Lakeside Howl-o-ween Bash this Friday.
- Must try: The fall marshmallow varieties, including apple spice + caramel chai flavors.
Whisk | 2100 E. Main St.
Get a macaron membership for exclusive flavors each month, or just stop by the bakery in Shockoe Bottom to try something off the pastry menu.
- Must try: Crème Brûlée Cheesecake bars. Enough said.
Pearl’s Bake Shoppe | 5811 Patterson Ave.
Whether you’re in the market for a custom cake or a traditional sweet treat, check out Pearl’s just west of Willow Lawn.
- Must try: The Grandma’s Garden cupcake has nutmeg, cornmeal + vanilla bean batter and a rosemary brown butter frosting.
We know we left a few places off the list. Where do you go for a sweet treat in the city?
