The US will mark its 250th anniversary in 2026, and the VMHC is celebrating with a multi-year initiative — including a special lecture, “Who’s Your Founding Father?: One Man’s Epic Quest to Uncover the First, True Declaration of Independence.”

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, join award-winning author David Fleming as he explores the mystery behind the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. This lesser-known document, signed in 1775, claims to be America’s first declaration of independence, long before Jefferson’s 1776 version.
