Whether you want to join a parade, watch a laser light show, or sit back and enjoy some fireworks, there’s an Independence Day celebration in Richmond for you.

Got plans this Independence Day? Even if you weren’t one of the lucky few to score tickets to the sold-out Fourth of July Flying Squirrels game, there are plenty of celebratory events happening Thursday, July 4.

Free Fourth of July | 9 a.m.-5 p.m. | Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Explore the gardens all day for free, check out the horticulture exhibit “Flourish: 40 Years and Growing,” and get lunch from Grateful Grill Food Truck.

VMHC Citizenship Ceremony and Celebration | 11 a.m. | Virginia Museum of History & Culture
Approximately 75 candidates will be sworn in as newly naturalized citizens, followed by live music and Ukrop’s cake.

Patriotic pups can compete in costume contests in Ashland for the Fourth of July.

Ashland Parade and Celebration | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | Hanover Arts and Activities Center
Get ready for a non-motorized parade and a patriotic performance by the Hanover Concert Band. There will also be costume contests, food, drinks, snow cones, lawn games, and apple pie baking contest.

Red, White, and Lights | 4-10 p.m. | Meadow Farm Museum at Crump Park
Henrico County’s celebration will include live music from the Richmond Symphony, food trucks, a kids zone, and a laser light show finale.

Dogwood Dell

The annual Festival of Arts includes a Fourth of July celebration at Dogwood Dell.

VA250 Independence Day | 5-9 p.m. | Virginia State Capitol
Geoff Bennett of PBS News Hour will MC the historic celebration complete with a bell-ringing ceremony, speakers, Quantico Marine Band, New Fellowship Gospel Choir, and a fireworks show.

Chesterfield Fourth of July Celebration | 5-10 p.m. | Chesterfield County Fairgrounds
Bring the family for kids activities, live music with the Morgan Lynsey Band, and fireworks presented by Chesterfield Parks and Recreation. Pro tip: The event is free but kids zone entry is $5.

Richmond Fourth of July Celebration | 5:30-10 p.m. | Dogwood Dell
The Richmond Concert Jazz Band will perform at 5:30, followed by the Richmond Concert Band at 7:30 and a fireworks display at 9:15. Pro tip: Overflow parking is available at City Stadium with a free shuttle bus.
