Memorial Day weekend in Richmond starts right now, with events to honor America’s heroes as well as family-friendly festivals + summer-starting soirees.

Memorial Day

Starting today, Vic Wise is leading the 105-mile Freedom Ruck from the Virginia War Memorial all the way to Arlington National Cemetery in DC to honor those who died serving our country. The runners do it with weighted rucksacks the entire time. The event raises money for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Ceremony | Mon., May 30 | 11 a.m. | Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Belvidere St. | Free | Join the remembrance ceremony in-person or watch the livestream. This ceremony is followed by a Memorial Day Concert at 2 p.m. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day Ceremony | Mon., May 30 | 12 p.m. | Fort Harrison National Cemetery, 8620 Varina Rd. | Free | A National Park historian will lead the ceremony + wreath-laying at this Richmond National Battlefield Park event.

Family-friendly fun

PopUp RVA Market | Sat., May 28 | 10 a.m.-3 p.m. | The Diamond | Free entry | Explore the 30+ vendors and catch live music by MusiqReiV and David Stone.

Seersuckers, Sundresses, and Sounds | Sun., May 29 | 3-11 p.m. | Bon Secours Training Center, 2401 W. Leigh St. | $50+ | Party with local jazz bands, vendors, food, drinks + tons of Richmond socialites.

Daydream Fest | Mon., May 30 | 11 a.m.-10 p.m. | Main Line Brewery, 1603 Ownby Ln. | $20+ | An all-day affair with an all-local music lineup + food trucks.

Seasonal summer starters

Kings Dominion’s Soak City is opening for the season Saturday at noon, and will end the night with Opening Weekend Fireworks.

If you want to stay in the city, four Richmond pools are reopening this Saturday from 12-6 p.m., and will run on weekends through Sat., June 18.
