Events
The free 804 Day block party is going down tonight from 4-9 p.m. around 17th Street Market. Expect live music on three stages, local eats, a vendor market, nonprofit spotlights, arts and crafts, and a kids zone. Bonus: Come say hi to RICtoday at our booth — we’ll be near the nonprofits.
The block party helps kick off Richmond Music Week, going down August 4-11. See what’s in store for the week-long celebration of the River City’s music scene.
There’s also an 804 Day pop-up and open house at Common House with food, vendors, and jazz music by Balter Choir. Stop by 303 W. Broad St. from 4 to 6 p.m. to join the celebration.
This 804 Day also falls on First Fridays, which means you can attend community events around the city from the Arts District to Manchester to the VMHC.

Watch out for congestion on the Mayo Bridge this month. There will be alternating lane closures starting on Monday, Aug. 7 and going until Labor Day. A VDOT contractor will perform soil boring tests to gather information on the foundation and structure of the historic bridge.

Red Hibachi & Beer is now open in Manchester at 1011 Hull St. Stop by the fast casual spot Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Pro tip: The restaurant does not accept cash.
Civic
The city looks to be shifting its plans for the Richmond Fire Department’s new training facility. Residents and conservationists voiced concerns about the impact the facility’s burn tower would have on air quality near the Hickory Hill Community Center. The tower is now planned for Sandston. (VPM)
Biz
Fan coffee shop Roastology will be moving out of its Cary Street location at the end of the year. The shop sold the building to architecture firm ENV for $1.7 million. It’s unclear where Roastology will open next. (Richmond BizSense)
Arts
Richmond Public Library’s Main Branch is hosting a First Friday art exhibit opening tonight at 6:30 p.m. Featured exhibits will highlight pieces by local artist including painter Babs Mohammed and abstract artist Jackson Sheehy. The event will also feature live music by Music One Stop Shop.
Festival
You can still get tickets for the Richmond Reggae Wine, Food & Music Festival, happening tomorrow from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. Enjoy live entertainment, wine tastings, vendors, and food at this 21+ event.

All four KidMed locations around Richmond are now certifed “Autism Friendly Communities” by the Autism Society of Central Virginia. The pediatric urgent care centers received the designation by requiring all staff members to undergo training, providing sensory kits to patients, and offering sensory-friendly rooms at each location.

Help teachers prepare for the school year by donating to United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg’s supply drive.
The nonprofit is accepting donations of tissues, hand sanitizer, loose leaf paper, mechanical pencils, pens, highlighters, dry erase markers, coffee pods, and sticky notes. Check the Amazon Wishlist for more.
Drop donations off in person at the United Way office at 7814 Carousel Ln., Ste. 400 (near the intersection of Broad and Parham) or purchase online through the wishlist.
Supplies will go to 3,000+ teachers in Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield. The drive will continue until Friday, Aug. 25.
