Marathons not your thing? This one might change your mind.

The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, happening Saturday, Nov. 11, is named “America’s Friendliest Marathon” for legit reasons:
  • Walkers are welcome, and there’s no shame in slowing your stride.
  • You can register as a volunteer to support participating friends.
  • Throw a block party (with possible reimbursements) to showcase your community spirit and potentially win prizes.

News Notes
Traffic
  • Starting tomorrow there will be alternating lane closures around Scott’s Addition lasting through mid-December. DPW crews will be installing bike lanes and raised crosswalks on several streets in the neighborhood. (ABC 8News)
Opening
  • A new restaurant is coming to the former home of Max’s on Broad. And Dum Sum will serve dim sum, noodles, dumplings, and a variety of other fusion items. You can try it out starting this Friday, Nov. 3. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Closed
  • Isley Brewing Company has closed. The Scott’s Addition brewery announced over the weekend that Sunday was its last day of service. It recently celebrated 10 years in business.
Coming Soon
  • A new taco spot called El Taco Guapo is moving into the former Asado location on Broad near VCU. Owner Jon Lillyman is conducting renovations and expects to open in around a month. (Richmond BizSense)
Outdoors
  • The city’s bike lane sweeper, affectionately known as MF Broom, has been off the streets for several months. The city says it has been absent due to staffing and equipment shortages, but will be back to sweeping in the spring. (VPM)
Cause
  • Local nonprofit Birth in Color RVA is celebrating five years of advocacy for maternal and infant health for people of color. Support the cause and enjoy a night of fun at the Harlem Nights Gala and Silent Auction, taking place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Hippodrome Theater.
Kids
  • Have a kid ready for two wheels? Richmond Cycling Corps, Wee Wheel, and Outpost Richmond are hosting Learn To Ride A Bike Day at Forest Hill Park on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. The event is free but registration is required. It’s BYOB — bring your own bike.
