Fun fact: The Valentine was the first private museum in the city when it opened in 1898.

A new place to find Virginia-made goods has opened in Scott’s Addition. It’s the first Richmond location for Northern VA-based Shop Made in Virginia. Know a local artisan? The store has a rolling application to become a featured maker.
Sports
A Saturday night victory over Chattanooga allowed the Kickers to clinch the final spot in the USL League One playoffs. It’ll be the team’s third postseason appearance in the last four seasons. Up the Roos at their last regular season game this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.
Civic
City Council passed an ordinance last week that should increase construction worker pay on city-funded projects. Contractors and sub-contractors will now be required to pay laborers a prevailing wage on projects valued at over $250,000. (VPM)

Dancing Kilt Brewery in Chester closed its doors over the weekend. It opened in 2020 and remodeled last year to build up its food offerings. The owners said they have no current plans to start another business. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Traffic
The Dept. of Public Works will be resurfacing several streets in the Hickory Hill area starting today. Watch out for lane closures and slower moving traffic on these roads. (South Richmond News)

Students at Armstrong High School hosted a first-of-its-kind mayoral forum last week where candidates answered questions generated by the school’s AP Government class. The event was moderated by two students, Renecia Allen and Zion Lundy, and hosted by student emcee Ty’Asia Tolson-Wilkerson. (The Richmonder)

Three days. Eight teams. One champion. The People’s Battle of Richmond rolls into the Greater Richmond Convention Center this Friday, Oct. 25 and continues with adrenaline-pumping action all weekend.
Hosted by River City Roller Derby, the contest will feature teams from Florida, South Carolina, Indiana, and around Virginia.
You can witness all the action by getting one, two, or three-day tickets — buy in advance to save on admission. The event will also include a raffle, vendors, and concessions.
