With a snazzy new crest + refreshed brand, the Kickers started their season with an away-game win last Friday — and the ball just got rolling. There are plenty of games to look forward to here in River City. Here are a few to get you started.

Opening Night — Saturday, March 22
Kick off the season with this high-energy match against AV Alta, and be on the lookout for RVA’s favorite hopping mascot, Kickeroo.

We’re intrigued by what this match against Union Omaha could entail, considering its Stiller-esque title.

Weather

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, and Richmond City Health District encourages locals to plan ahead for emergencies. Residents can prepare by locating safe shelters, gathering necessary items in “go-bags,” updating yearly insurance plans, and more. Read additional weather-safety tips here.

Cause

Last Friday marked the launch of Richmond Ren Faire with a spectacle of support (and lots of turkey legs). The organization has raised $2,700+ through their GoFundMe campaign and calls on the community to help reach their goals. Feareth not — there are other ways to help out. (RVA Magazine)

Announced

Counting Crows + James Taylor and his All-Star Band just joined this year’s Allianz Amphitheater lineup. So far, the venue’s calendar consists of 25+ concerts from their opening in June to mid- October. Get ready to snag your tickets before they sell out. (CBS 6)

Closing

Slurp! Ramen announced that they will be closing on Sunday, March 30. The Church Hill spot opened two years ago next to The Emerald Lounge. Both establishments (along with three other RVA restaurants) are co-owned by Richmonder Kevin Lui. Check in with The Emerald Lounge for updates on the space.
