News Notes

Coming Soon

Daisy’s at Tredegar is the newest restaurant to join our coming-soon list. Attached to The Foundry at Historic Tredegar, this spot will neighbor Allianz Theater and Richmond’s growing riverside scene. The team hopes to cater to nighttime social crowds as well as working folks taking lunch breaks downtown. (CBS 6)

State

A ban on Styrofoam for Virginia food vendors with 20 or more locations will begin Tuesday, July 1. This is part of a multi-step law that went into effect in 2023 in an effort to reduce the use of expanded polystyrene. Companies that fail to comply will be fined $50 for each day the violation continues. (3WTKR)

Home

The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee awarded several local properties for admirable environmental efforts. Celeste Farms on Obsorne Turnpike earned the Clean Business nomination + four residential homes received the Land Lovers Award. Feeling inspired? Here are some beginner tips to boost your home’s eco-consciousness. (WRIC)

Shop

Brian’s Books has a couple hundred more reads hitting the shelves this weekend. See what’s joining the inventory and drop by the new biz Fridays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mailbag

When you subscribed to RICtoday, you may have received an email asking for your favorite local restaurant — and yes, we’ve been reading every response. For example, Reader Bill S. recommends Latitude Seafood in Chesterfield + Reader Kristen suggests Hobnob in Lakeside — “Food and atmosphere excellent.”

Civic

Driving with kids? Make sure they’re buckled up — it’s required by state law for anyone under 18. As a driver, stay alert and be ready to stop if a child runs into the street. Every little bit helps keep our streets safe.*

Try This

Put your detective skills to the test with the Virginia Lottery’s new CLUE Scratcher. Inspired by the classic board game, this twist lets you play from your favorite “room” — and your phone. It’s mystery, nostalgia, and maybe even a win, all in one. Play online.*

Family

Ready to travel back 250 million years? “Ultimate Dinosaurs,” now on display at the Science Museum of Virginia, features fully mounted skeletons and real fossils of creatures that evolved as Pangaea (read: Earth’s supercontinent) broke apart. Snag tix before they go extinct.*
Athleta’s Semi-Annual Sale is on. Take up to 70% off bestsellers, workout staples, and everyday favorites built to move with you. Hurry — the sale ends Sunday, June 29.*

The Buy

Nordstrom’s new arrivals under $100 to celebrate summer. We’re loving: these woven ballet flats, a luxurious-looking cotton sweater that’s cool enough for summer, and perhaps the cutest pink two-piece jumpsuit we’ve ever seen.
