Share your River City reading nook

Two books are open-faced, one in grass and the other mostly cropped out in the bottom right of the frame. A person (shoulders and side of face, directed away from the camera) lays down on a blanket and faces the book open in the grass.

We want to know where you like to cozy up with a book in Richmond. Are you heading to the river — tote bag in tow — or are you frequenting a local cafe, library, or pool? The foot of a cherished neighborhood tree?

Here are a few reader responses we’ve already received:
  • There is a bench under a shade tree at the far end of Hollywood Cemetery. Quiet. - Vicki W.
  • Grit in Scott’s Addition (especially when the barista is playing electronica) - Justin K.
  • The gardens at the VMFA - Stacey E.
📸 Major kudos if you can add a photo.

News Notes

State

Virginia has deployed water rescue teams to support recovery efforts in Texas after severe flooding over the weekend. The two Type III rescue teams hail from Bristol and Virginia Beach. How can you help from Richmond? If you’re able, consider donating to these relief funds. (WRIC)

Civic

Yesterday morning, Henrico County announced an investigation into low water pressure around John Rolfe and Ridgefield parkways. Residents can report unusual water conditions by calling 804-727-8700. In other utility news, Henrico Public Works urges residents not to flush wipes down the toilet. It appears “flushable” wipes aren’t so flushable. (CBS 6)

Watch

We’ll take “I Love RVA” for $1,000. Richmonder Elise Canup will compete on “Jeopardy!” tonight, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. Tune in to ABC, and consider this your motivation to test your wits with local trivia nights. (WRIC)

Try This

You might know Barrel Thief on Patterson Avenue as a one-stop shop for wine. Now, it’s a two-stop shop for wine and vintage watches. Want to see for yourself? Join a tasting event on Thursday, July 17, to try out some fresh sips and try on some fresh inventory.

Sports

Richmond may not have an NHL team, but we do have an NHL player to root for. Richmonder Zac Jones signed with the Buffalo Sabers last week after five years with the New York Rangers. (The Richmonder)

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Elise

This past weekend, my reading paradise was a rocky beach along the James, featuring my digital camera, some thrifted sunglasses, and a (partially eaten) peanut butter + jelly sandwich.

Don’t forget to add your reading spot recommendation (and an optional picture) so our article can feel truly local. As you can see, we don’t mind a photo with a little personality.
A dark blue towel lays over brown rocks. On the towel is an open book, facing down, a digital camera, and pair of partially folded sunglasses, and a cut-in-half sandwich sitting on a paper town and Ziploc bag.
