🏁 NASCAR... for non-racing fans

NASCAR weekend spans from Thursday, Aug. 14 to Saturday, Aug. 16. | Photo by RICtoday
So, you’re considering attending NASCAR weekend at Richmond Raceway, but you know little to nothing about the sport of racing. Been there, and here to assure you that you can still have a blast even if you don’t plan on watching all 400 laps.

All you need are some fun-loving friends, an eager spirit, and an open mind — but we can get more specific than that.
People stand near the fence at Richmond Raceway, on the other side of the track where a Craftsman Truck drives by in a blurred motion.

Reserve tickets for the Craftsan Truck Series this Friday, Aug. 15, for a little less commotion than Saturday’s big race.

Rev up your excitement

  • Love dressing for a theme? Shop for a vintage NASCAR T-shirt at one of Richmond’s local resale stores.

🏁 Race day

  • Arrive early + ride-share. Before the race starts, you can tailgate and browse vendors.
  • Bring headphones or earplugs to help block out the engine noise. We recommend opting for headphones + curating your perfect NASCAR playlist.

The Wrap

Today’s NASCAR guide was a a bit of a passion piece, to say the least. Over the past couple of years, NASCAR weekend has quickly become one of my favorite annual summer memories... and it’s not because I’m invested every lap (and that’s okay).

The real magic: I’m in a crowd of thousands, and no one knows I’m blasting “Real Gone” by Sheryl Crow in my headphones.
