NASCAR isn’t just for racing fans, and we’ve cracked the code on how you and your friends can turn the racetrack into your favorite summer venture.

So, you’re considering attending NASCAR weekend at Richmond Raceway, but you know little to nothing about the sport of racing. Been there, and here to assure you that you can still have a blast, even if you don’t plan on watching all 400 laps.

All you need are some fun-loving friends, an eager spirit, and an open mind — but we can get more specific than that.

Opt for the Craftsan Truck Series for a less busy atmosphere.

Get your tickets

Saturday, Aug. 16, is the big race day, which means tickets are more expensive and flying fast. If you want a more laid-back experience, you can opt for $30 admission to the Craftsan Truck Series on Friday, Aug. 15.

Rev up your excitement

🏁 Race day

  • Arrive early + ride-share to combat extra traffic. Before the race starts, you can tailgate and browse vendors boasting merch, freebies, and interactive displays.
  • Pack all the snacks, waters, beers, and seltzers you want — bags and soft-sided coolers are permitted for tailgating and in the stands.
  • Have all your friends pick a car to root for at the beginning of the race, and see whose pick ranks the highest by the end.
  • Bring headphones or earplugs to help block out the noise of the engines. We highly recommend opting for headphones so you can curate your perfect NASCAR playlist.
    • Any old-school rock. (Bonus points if you can sync up the first guitar solo in “Free Bird” with the start of the race.)
    • The “Cars” soundtrack
    • Charli XCX
  • Take plenty of breaks to explore the stands, visit concessions, shop vendors, and chat with your friends outside of the engine-roaring commotion.

Rain can lead to race delays, but you can’t be mad with a soft pretzel in your hand + an outcome like this.
