How far does $1,500 in rent really go? It depends on the city skyline you’re looking at. | Photo by @cwclarke_photos
RentCafe recently studied 200 cities across the US to determine how much space $1,500 a month could get you. Will you be surprised about what you can find in Richmond? Let’s find out.

A monthly rent of $1,500 will get you an average of 828 sqft — compared to Manhattan’s 216 sqft, we’ll take it.

News Notes

Today Is

Labor Day. We dove into the archives to research Richmond’s ties to the federal holiday, noting the grassroots initiatives + Black worker campaigns that helped define our city’s historic labor movement. Learn the history — don’t worry, it’s not too much work.

Mansion Monday

Do you need a fireplace in your bedroom? We think you do — it goes great with the marble bath tub in this mansion overlooking James River. What’s the price tag?

Coming Soon

The 77th Emmy Awards is right around the corner. “The Bear,” “The Last of Us,” and “The White Lotus” are among the nominees, as is Owen Cooper — the youngest-ever Emmy nominee. The 15-year-old was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. Although nothing filmed in Richmond made the cut, we still think they’re winners.

Real Estate

How much do you think the most expensive single-family home listing in the United States is? If you guessed $300 million, congratulations. This recent listing in Aspen, Colorado sits on 74+ acres and boasts 27,000+ sqft within the idyllic, scarcely believable beauty of the Rocky Mountains. We’ll start a GoFundMe.

Sports

Peaceful Sundays were fun while they lasted, but now it’s time for the NFL to return this Thursday, Sept. 4. The reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles are hosting their division rival Dallas Cowboys to start the season in front of a typically raucous crowd. Catch the games on Hulu.

Fly out of Richmond International Airport

Traveling can be great, but the whole navigating the airport part? Less exciting, and sometimes pretty stressful.

To help make your time at Richmond International Airport as smooth as possible, we’ve created a guide that covers everything from gates and parking to nonstop flight options.

What to know

  • TSA: RIC recommends arriving at the airport around 90 minutes prior to departure if you’re traveling during non-peak periods. For peak periods — think weekends and holidays — shoot for two hours.
  • Map it out: If you’re like us and need to completely visualize a place before setting foot inside, these airport maps will be your saving grace.
  • Food and drink: Upwards of 10 options will keep you fueled up for your trip.

Nonstop flights

Richmond offers ~150 daily domestic flights that go to six US regions. In recent news, RIC added a new nonstop flight to Bermuda via BermudAir — RIC’s first international flight service since 2013.
